Steam Trap Testing

Hi all, just wondering what people are using to test the steam traps?

Engineers stethoscope. You can get one that is electronic for approximately 100 - 150 dollars. You can literally hear the bucket open and close. You can also hear the Hiss of steam meaning that the trap is leaking. I also use an IR gun. Best time to test is in the morning for the IR gun. The downstream condensate pipes are "cold" then giving you a good temperature differential. You can also rent or buy an IR Camera for a few dollars more. These have dropped a great deal in price and will also help on your electrical panels.
